The Government of Atlántico, through its tourism portal VisitAtlántico, is committed to protecting the privacy of users. This Privacy Policy describes our practices for collecting, using, and protecting personal data, in compliance with Law 1581 of 2012 (Colombian Personal Data Protection Law) and its regulatory decrees.

By using VisitAtlántico, you agree to the practices described in this policy. We recommend that you read it carefully.

Section 1

Information We Collect

We collect different types of information depending on how you interact with our site:

Information you provide voluntarily

  • Email (when you use the Trip Planner or subscribe to the newsletter)
  • Travel preferences selected in the Planner (days, interests, municipalities)
  • Messages and inquiries sent through Jimmy or contact forms
  • Comments or feedback on destinations and experiences

Information collected automatically

  • Browsing data (pages visited, time spent on site, browsing paths)
  • Device information (browser type, operating system, screen resolution)
  • IP address and approximate location
  • Referral data (how you arrived at the site)

How We Use Your Information

We use the information collected for the following purposes:

  • Personalize your experience: Generate itineraries tailored to your preferences, display relevant destinations, and remember your preferred language.
  • Improve service: Analyze usage patterns to optimize the site, correct errors, and develop new features.
  • Communications: To send you your itinerary by email (if you request it), newsletters (with your consent), and respond to your inquiries.
  • Aggregate statistics: Generate reports on tourism trends to help improve the department's offerings.

Jimmy (AI Assistant) and Travel Planner

VisitAtlántico includes artificial intelligence features that deserve special mention:

Jimmy, your Virtual Guide

  • Conversations with Jimmy are processed to generate relevant responses.
  • We do not permanently store conversation history associated with your identity.
  • Jimmy uses Anthropic (Claude) technology to process queries.
  • Do not share sensitive personal information in conversations.

AI Travel Planner

  • Your travel preferences are used solely to generate the itinerary.
  • Email is optional and is only used to send you the itinerary if you request it.
  • The generated itineraries can be shared via unique links.
  • You can download your itinerary as a PDF without providing any personal information.

Sharing Information with Third Parties

We do not sell or rent your personal information. We may share data in the following circumstances:

  • Service providers: Firebase (data storage), Anthropic (AI processing), email services, analytics.
  • Legal requirements: When required by law, court order, or to protect rights, safety, or property.
  • Aggregated data: Anonymous statistics on tourism trends may be shared with government entities in Atlántico.

You may request that we correct inaccurate or incomplete data.

You may request that we delete your personal data in certain circumstances.

You can receive your data in a structured, commonly used, machine-readable format.

✓ Right to object

You may object to the processing of your data in certain circumstances.

✓ Right to withdraw consent

You may withdraw your consent at any time without affecting the lawfulness of prior processing.

✓ Right to restriction of processing

You may request that we restrict the processing of your data in certain situations.

Legal Basis for Processing

We process your personal data on the following legal bases:

  • Consent: For analytical cookies and marketing communications (you can withdraw your consent at any time).
  • Contract fulfillment: To generate and send you personalized itineraries when you use our planner.
  • Legitimate interest: To improve our services and detect fraud.

International Data Transfers

Your data may be transferred and processed on servers located outside the European Union:

  • Google Cloud (Firebase): Data stored on servers in the US with protection under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.
  • Anthropic (Claude AI): Processing of conversations with Jimmy. Data is processed in the US under EU-approved Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs).

We take measures to ensure that your data is treated securely and in accordance with this policy and applicable data protection laws.

Exercising Your Rights

To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at atencionalciudadano@atlantico.gov.co. We will respond to your request within 30 days.

If you are not satisfied with our response, you have the right to file a complaint with the data protection authority in your country. In Spain, you can contact the Spanish Data Protection Agency (AEPD).

Section 8

Data Security

We implement technical and organizational measures to protect your information:

  • SSL/TLS encryption on all communications
  • Secure storage on Firebase servers (Google Cloud)
  • Restricted access to personal data only to authorized personnel
  • Regular security monitoring and updates
  • Regular backups

Note: No system is 100% secure. If you detect any vulnerabilities or have security concerns, please contact us immediately.

Section 9

Data Retention

We only keep your information for as long as necessary:

  • Browsing data: 26 months maximum (aligned with Google Analytics)
  • Newsletter emails: Until you unsubscribe
  • Shared itineraries: 90 days from creation
  • Conversations with Jimmy: Not permanently stored
Section 10

Minors

VisitAtlántico is a tourist information site suitable for all ages. We do not intentionally collect personal information from children under the age of 14 without the consent of their parents or legal guardians.

If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided personal information, please contact us to have it removed.

Section 11

Changes to this Policy and Contact Information

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. Significant changes will be notified by a prominent notice on the site. We recommend that you review this page regularly.
